Correcting Your Email Address

A Correct Email Is Imperative

Everything in domain names is controlled by email.  It's IMPERATIVE that the email address associated with your account and with you domain names is current and accurate.

Here's why:

  • The email address of record on the domain name is the OWNER of the domain name.
    • That means a former web developer or a former employee could be the owner of your domain. It's critical that you know who owns your domain.

    • That email address is used for renewal notifications. If you purchase a name for 5 years and you change your email address in the meantime, you won't ever receive the automated notices that your name is about to expire.

    • The email on the account is the address where payment notifications and receipts are sent. For example, if your name is set to automatically renew each year, but the credit card on file is no longer valid, this is the email address that will receive the notification.

Changing and Verifying a New Email

WHEN YOU CHANGE THE EMAIL ADDRESS you must verify it.  This is Enom's way of knowing that you are receiving the emails from them.  When you change the email address, there's a process that must be completed within a 7-10 days OR THE DOMAIN WILL STOP WORKING.  (They do this to assure they have your attention.)

The account holder email is usually (but not always) the email address of record on the domain name.

Editing Email on the Account

When logged in, go to Edit in the Account Overview section of the Dashboard.  On the next page change the email address and confirm it. Scroll to the bottom of the page and Save Changes.

NOTE: If you change the email address, you cannot transfer the domain for 60 day.

Verifying the Change

Finally, you'll receive an email - send to the new email address -  with a link asking you to verify the change in the email address. You have a limited amount of time (usually 7-10 days) to click the link in the email. If not, the domain will cease to function.

This email comes from donotreply@name-services.com .

Many people look at this and think it might be spam - but it's not - it's vital to click the verification link in the email.

Or Notice of the Change

Or, you may receive an email sent to the old address informing you of the changes.
